The flagship for the event is the T.S.M.V. Gunnamatta which hosts the carol singers on board. The local radio station 2SSR 99.7 FM broadcasts the choir so that all boats in the flotilla and homes on the waterfronts can tune in to listen and sing along to the carols. The procession, where possible hugs the shoreline, enabling family and friends out on the balconies to join in with the Christmas cheer. Boxing Day (Saturday 26th December 2009) Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race Start [The Heads, Sydney Harbour] Over the past 64 years, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race has become an icon of Australian summer sport. Participants from maxi yachts to weekend racers take part in this event, which began in 1945. The race start on Sydney Harbour attracts hundreds of spectator craft and hundreds of thousands of people lining the shore as helicopters buzz above the fleet, filming for TV around the world.
