Every year the Lions Club raises money for the Randwick Children's Hospital with a colourful flotilla cruising around the bays of Cronulla's Port Hacking. The flagship for the event is the T.S.M.V. Gunnamatta which hosts the carol singers on board. The local radio station 2SSR 99.7 FM broadcasts the choir so that all boats in the flotilla and homes on the waterfronts can tune in to listen and sing along to the carols. The procession, where possible hugs the shoreline, enabling family and friends out on the balconies to join in with the Christmas cheer. Boxing Day (Monday 26th December 2011) Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race Start

Over the past 66 years, the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race has become an icon of Australian summer sport. Participants from maxi yachts to weekend racers take part in this event, which began in 1945. The race start on Sydney Harbour attracts hundreds of spectator craft and hundreds of thousands of people lining the shore as helicopters buzz above the fleet, filming for TV around the world. Starting off Nielsen Park (Vaucluse) in Sydney Harbour at 1.00pm, the yachts start their 630 nautical mile journey by rounding The Heads and then heading south to Hobart. Late April (tba April 2012) Festival of Kurnell

April is Kurnell time! Feverish preparations all through the month will culminate on April 29th, this year the 242nd anniversary of Captain Cook's historic entry into Botany Bay and his coming ashore on the beach of the peninsula that the startled Aborigines called Kernl, later anglicised as Kurnell. Late July (Sunday 22nd July 2012) Sutherland to Surf Fun Run

Organised by the Wanda Surf Lifesaving Club, the Sutherland to Surf Fun Run is recognised as the lead up race for the famous City to Surf, and is held in July each year. The Sutherland Shire's premier sporting event, it brings more than 5000 competitors to race, wheel or walk the 11kms from Sutherland Entertainment Centre to Wanda Beach. 02nd-06th Aug 2012 Sydney Boat Show

Sydney Boat Show is the most important specialized event of its kind in Australia. Sydney Boat Show will offer a unique show of equipment and services ranging from water sports through surfing, water skiing, and diving technologies, to charters, motorboats, and luxurious yachts. 2nd Sunday Aug (Sunday 12th August 2012) City To Surf Fun Run

[City-Bondi, Sydney City]
The Sun-Herald City2Surf was born in 1971 with just over 2000 entrants. What began as a small community event has become an annual Sydney institution and sees more than 60,000 people compete in the world's largest fun run. The course is 14km, starting at 9am from Park/College Streets and extending through the eastern suburbs down to the finish at Bondi Beach. After the race you can soak up the atmosphere at any number of street cafes or meet your retrieval drivers and have a picnic on beautiful Bondi Beach.

Late-Aug/ Early-Sep (tba August 2012) Kogarah Fair & Charity Bed Race

[Kogarah, Southern Sydney]
BEDLAM COMES TO KOGARAH! This much-loved event has become an annual tradition in Kogarah. Along Railway Parade visitors can see the competing teams ham it up in their colourful costumes and decorated beds during the traditional bed parade from 10am. On Belgrave Street it's all the fun of the fair, with food and craft stalls, entertainment, kids rides and roving entertainers. Fun activities and lots of free stuff, a great day for everyone and not to be missed. As always all proceeds will be donated to The St George Hospital.
