How to get to Garie Beach

Car or bike

Ride or drive from Sydney. Follow the Princes Highway to Sutherland and follow the signs to the Royal National Park and then to Garie Beach.

If you're driving into the park, you will need to purchase a National Parks and Wildlife Services vehicle day pass for $11 at the entry to the Royal National Park (prices as at January 2005).

Please note that the gate to the entrance to the Garie Beach Surf Club is only open between 7am and 8:30pm.

The gates are locked by the Royal National Park overnight, so if you are driving make sure you get there before 8:30pm, or you will be locked out!

Train

Catch the Waterfall hourly train from Town Hall or Central train stations, then walk 12km.
Catch the Ottford train from Central station then take the 10km coastal track walk to Garie beach.
Catch the Cronulla train from Town Hall or Central station then catch a ferry from Cronulla to Bundeena and take the 15km coastal walk to Garie Beach. For more information on ferry times, please call (02) 9523 2990.

Once at Garie Beach, it is about a 1.5km walk to the Garie Beach YHA including a trek through the bush. Once you get to the Garie Beach car park you will need to follow the instructions below:

Walk past the front of the Garie Beach Surf Club and along the beach for about 150m
Before the valley between the two hills, turn left.
There are a series of rocky steps on a track on the hill. You will notice a rusty pipe on the steps.
Walk up these steps and follow the bush track through the trees to the YHA. This will take 15 minutes approximately.
