Cronulla Beach YHA Accommodation Sydney
Backpackers Newsletter # 12 - January 2006
Happy New Year everyone!
Well we're currently recovering from the usual manic Christmas and New Year
craziness...
2006 Got off to a scorching start for us here in Sydney, New Year's Day was
the second hottest day ever recorded in the city's history, reaching a
withering 44°C. If you have never experienced this level of heat it
actually feels as though someone is holding a hairdryer to your body. Many,
many coldies drunk to relieve the pain!
We are now larger by 22 beds! Stage One of the extension was finished
mid-year, with two extra six-bed dorms, an extra seven-bed private family
room, an enlarged P4, a new laundry and a small outside courtyard. The new
party-animals' mosh pit is now Dorm 10 - Dorm 8 has been put into early
retirement and is licking its wounds!
Mid-year also saw us pass the five-year mark of operation, we opened in July
2000 and now count about 15,000 of you in our ex-guest family!!!
A sad time for us this week -- move over Manchester's Adrian -- our
longest-staying-ever guest Brummie Dave finally left, after 1 3/4yrs...
Joining us in April 2004 he became a regular hostel fixture almost
immediately, and has plied his trade cutting a swathe through the ladies
ever since. The womenfolk of Cronulla can now breathe a sigh of relief!...
Those of you who know Big Phil Cannan will be pleased (or horrified?) to
learn he has now started his own business - "Canons Shuttles". He is now
the unofficial transport arm of the hostel, ferrying travellers safely
between our door and wherever they want to go. Visit his website at
http://www.canonsshuttles.com.au/
If you are "homesick" for Cronulla, you may care to browse the following
site - it's a live webcam of Cronulla Beach -
at http://www.coastalwatch.com/
Take care and hope to see you all again in the years to come!...
Cheers, Michael.
